Socialist minute books (New York, N.Y.), 1872-1907.

The collection consists of thirty-two volumes pertaining to the Socialist Labor Party, Social Democratic Party and other socialist organizations. Almost half of the volumes pertain to the New York City Local of the Socialist Labor Party and include minutes of branch and committee meetings (some in German). Thirteen volumes relate to the Social Democratic Party, which changed its name to the Socialist Party in 1906, and include convention proceedings and minutes of various branches and committees. Miscellaneous volumes provide information about early socialist activities in the United States, including minutes of the Arbeiterzeitung editorial board, the Philadelphia Tageblatt Publishing Society, the New York City Local of the International Vestmakers Union and the Shirt, Waist, and Laundry workers International Union.

The Social Democratic Party was established in 1898 as a result of a split in the Social Democracy of America (SDA). Organized by Eugene V.
